The Smashing Pumpkins
Siamese Dream
(Virgin)
There weren’t really a lot of great albums in 1993, but those few were afuckingmazing! Frank Black’s sprawling solo debut, Mazzy Star’s So Tonight That I Might See, The Afghan Whig’s brilliant Gentlemen, Hum’s Electra2000 and New Order’s Republic.
Then, of course, the only two that I considered which are Nirvana’s high-point, In Utero, and the unbelievably awesome Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins. It was really hard to choose between these two, but, as much as I love love love love In Utero, the glistening Big-Muff distortion and shimmering perfection of Siamese Dream gives it the edge.
